What follows is a true story that our editor said was OK for the Advocate this once since it is reflective of the kind of experiences we all have and expresses a snapshot of life in the 21st Century with all our systems and advances. In the beginning of December 2008, it was apparent that Penn State was going to win the Big 10 conference and earn a trip to the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA. After discussing it with Kristen to make sure we had someone to watch the kids and that she could get some time off, we decided to go for it. I had never been to any "Bowl" games and the thought of going to the granddaddy of them all was very exciting. We got tickets on line through Razorgator.com. The pair of tickets on the 20-yard line cost me $1200. The rest of the trip would not cost much because we would stay with Kristen's sister Kelly in LA. We would fly American Airlines since I had several hundred thousand frequent flier miles. We later found out American Airlines was the official airline of the Rose Bowl.
